Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Nakaaya has been the surprise winner of the Group 2 Sunline Stakes at Moonee Valley in Race 6 tonight March 25, 2012.
The four-year-old Tiger Hill mare jumped well from the barriers and settled in a prime position early on.
Red Flair led the race from the beginning and rounded the home turn half a length ahead of Platinum Passion.
Lady Lynette, despite jumping well, was caught in an awkward position for the majority of the race and was forced to wait on a run as she attempted to make her way through the field.
Lady Lynette was disappointed for a run on multiple occasions as she made her way down the home straight behind Platinum Passion, who took the lead from Red Flair and began to storm down the inside rail.
Nakaaya burst through the pack late to steal the win away from Lady Lynette, who had the unluckiest run in the race, by a nose.
Lady Lynette’s camp lodged a protest against Nakaaya soon after the race had finished, which was ultimately dismissed.
Platinum Passion put in a gallant run in the $200,000 Sunline Stakes to finish a half length behind the winner in third.
This was Nakaaya’s fifth win in 11 starts and the four-year-old’s first Stakes race win.
Nakaaya was paying long odds of $18.50 to win at Luxbet.
Mick Price now plans to send his Group 2 winning filly to the Group 2 Queen Of The South Stakes on April 16, 2011, at Morphettville.
