King Pulse and Panipique have been unexpectedly withdrawn from the Group 1 William Reid Stakes which will run as Race 7 tonight March 25, 2011, at Moonee Valley.
King Pulse had been primed to run his third race in the 2011 William Reid Stakes after being forced out of racing for almost a year after taking fright in last year’s hailstorm after the Newmarket Handicap and fracturing his shoulder.
The Canny Lad gelding has won two of his six race starts and is an untapped racing talent.
Trained by Michael Moroney, King Pulse had drawn the widest barrier of the field (9), however, it remains to be heard whether this is the reason for his shock withdrawal from the race.
Panipique has also been scratched from the 2011 William Reid Stakes field.
The three-year-old Testa Rossa filly was in stellar form ahead of the $500,000 William Reid Stakes after winning the Listed Miss Security Stakes at Flemington last start.
Panipique has won three of her nine starts so far and as accrued more than $171,000 in prize money in her short career.
Information on why both horses have been withdrawn from the race is still pending.
The scratching of two of the major competitors in the 2011 William Reid Stakes field has now left Black Caviar with only seven opponents to try and stop her from winning her 11th straight win in tonight’s race.
Black Caviar is currently paying odds of $1.08 for the win at Luxbet, while second favourites Crystal Lily and Master Harry are paying odds of $17.
