Australia’s current superstar of racing, Black Caviar, will attempt to write herself even further into the history books when she tries to claim her eleventh straight unbeaten win in the 2011 William Reid Stakes this Friday night March 25, 2011.
With the freakishly talented four-year-old currently backed into $1.08 to win at Luxbet, the questions that begs to be answered is whether Black Caviar can keep her brilliant lightening performances up forever.
The Bel Esprit mare won her tenth race in the $1 million Newmarket Handicap last start, carrying a monstrous 58 kilograms, so the thought that she may be even close to beatable under weight-for-age conditions is hard to envisage.
However, Peter Moody is not ruling out the possibility of an upset, understanding that horse racing sometimes deals you harsh blows.
“Crystal Lily ran super in the Newmarket and is a Golden Slipper winner,” Moody said.
“I know my other three horses (in the William Reid Stakes) are stakes quality and I have high opinions of them.”
Despite being cautious, Peter Moody also realises that something would have to go horribly wrong for his super mare to not pass the post first.
“But being realistic, on exposed form there is going to have to be a massive turnaround for those horses to defeat her,” Moody said.
“You would think there would (have to) be some curve ball, something would have to go wrong with her and hopefully that’s not the case.”
Black caviar, who usually recovers quickly from her seemingly effortless runs, found things a little harder after the 2011 Newmarket Handicap.
“She knew she had a run,” Moody said.
“It took a couple of days for the horse to bounce back, more so than she had previously.”
The trainer is confident that his mare will cope with the Moonee Valley track on Friday night.
“Tuesday morning she had a bit of a slip along here (Caulfield) on the course proper and I’m very pleased with her,” he said.
“There are no excuses, she’s been to Moonee Valley three times now. She’s undefeated everywhere so I suppose it’s easy to say she’s undefeated there.”
