Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
A below maximum field has accepted for a chance to take on Black Caviar in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes at Moonee Valley this Friday night March 25, 2011.
The 1,200 metre William Reid Stakes is a standard weight-for-age sprint that is worth a staggering $500,000 in prize money.
Black Caviar has scared away much of her competition, dwindling the 2011 William Reid Stakes final field down to nine starters from an original 15 nominations.
Among those to pull out of the 2011 William Reid Stakes is David Hayes’ Eagle Falls, who won the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate at Caulfield on February 26, 2011.
David Hayes is opting to avoid any further contact with Black Caviar, and will most likely head overseas to guarantee this.
“If he runs well but gets absolutely hammered by Black Caviar we would certainly go overseas because everywhere he’s got to go domestically, she’s going to be there unfortunately,” Hayes said before the 2011 Newmarket Handicap where Eagle Falls finished ninth.
However, some of Australia’s bravest horses have stayed to fight the battle against the super mare Black Caviar, including Crystal Lily, who finished second to the freakishly talented mare in the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap last start.
Crystal Lily, who has won four of her 11 career starts so far, will attempt to turn the tables on her strongest competitor when they meet again this Friday night in the 2011 William Reid Stakes.
The Stratum filly will jump from gate seven in the 2011 William Reid Stakes and will be ridden by jockey Stephen Baster.
King Pulse will be attempting to get back on track in the 2011 William Reid Stakes in his third race back from a devastating injury that left him unable to compete for over 11 months.
The Canny Lad gelding took fright in the severe hail storm that erupted after last year’s Newmarket Handicap and slipped over on the hail and fractured his shoulder.
The untapped talent will be hoping to prove he is back with a vengeance when he takes on the 2011 William Reid Stakes field at Moonee Valley.
Despite the abundance of talent included in the 2011 William Reid Stakes, all eyes will be on superstar Black Caviar as the world watches with trepidation as she attempts to win her 11th unbeaten race start and her fourth Group 1 in a row.
Black Caviar has drawn barrier six for the 2011 William Reid Stakes and will be ridden by her regular jockey Luke Nolen.
