2011 Robert Sangster Stakes – Final Field Released

The $350,000 Robert Sangster Stakes will feature as the major event this Friday night March 26, 2011, at Morphettville Racecourse and the final field has been released to reveal 13 talented fillies and mares will run in the Group 1 race.

The 1,200 metre Robert Sangster Stakes is a standard weight-for-age race open to fillies and mares only.

Avenue will be one of 13 fillies and mares to contest the 2011 Robert Sangster Stakes this Saturday

Avenue will be one of 13 fillies and mares to contest the 2011 Robert Sangster Stakes this Saturday

The 2011 Robert Sangster Stakes field includes Peter Moody’s Avenue, who won the Group 3 Irwin Stakes last start.

The four-year-old Anabaa mare has not finished worse than second in her three races so far this preparation and is in stunning form for the 2011 Robert Sangster Stakes.

Avenue has won eight of her 18 career starts and has accrued over $660,000 on prize money.

The four-year-old has been unlucky in the barrier draw and will jump from the second widest gate of 12 in this weekend’s race.

Peter Snowden is represented by his Robert Sangster Stakes hopeful Beaded, who finished third last start in the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap behind Black Caviar and Crystal Lily.

The five-year-old Lonhro mare has had a very successful preparation, winning the Group 3 Hyderabad R.C. Stakes first-up on February 12, 2011, at Caulfield.

Beaded has won nine of her 18 starts and has only finished outside the placings once in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap at Eagle Farm, when she finished only 0.4 of a length behind the winner.

The star-studded Robert Sangster Stakes field also includes Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra’s Response, Peter Moody’s Panipique and Tony Noonan’s Varenna Miss.
