Rosehill Guineas Day Nominations – 2011 Ajax Stakes

Rosehill Guineas Day, the latest feature meet of the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival, will light up Rosehill Gardens this Saturday March 19 and as part of the action the $175,000 Group 2 Ajax Stakes (1500m) is scheduled to take place.

Brazilian Pulse

Crown Oaks winner Brazilian Pulse is an early favourite for the Ajax Stakes on Saturday

The 2011 Ajax Stakes has drawn 18 nominees with Crown Oaks winning filly Brazilian Pulse leading the entries.

Michael Moroney’s Group 1 winner resumed with a first-up second behind Do Ra Mi in the Group 2 Kewney Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on March 12 and should improve second-up over the extra distance on Saturday.

Two of the other early favourites among the early Ajax entries are the Chris Waller-trained duo of Triple Elegance and Snow Alert.

Last start Mossman four-year-old Triple Elegance scored a smart one length win over Graceful Anna in the Group 3 Liverpool City Cup (1300m) at Warwick Farm on March 5.

Stablemate Snow Alert has had just one start this year finishing sixth in the Listed Tattersalls Club Cup (2000m) at Randwick on New Year’s Day.

Pulling up lame after the race Snow Alert was sent for a refresh and is reportedly back on track.

Other notable 2011 Ajax Stakes nominees include:

  • Pureness (Gai Waterhouse) – Gai Waterhouse’s improving Tale Of The Cat gelding ran a game third to Triple Elegance in the Liverpool City Cup last start
  • Under The Eiffel (Tony Vasil) – Also nominated for the Adelaide Guineas, Mossman three-year-old ran second in the Group 2 D’Urban Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield in February before finishing fifth to Shamrocker in the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington last start
  • Rose Of Peace (Gary Portelli) – Smart Hussonet filly ran third to Parables in the Group 2 Surround Stakes (1400m) at Warwick Farm last start, an early fancy for the 2011 AJC Oaks
  • Lebrechaun (Matthew Dale) – Five-year-old galloper from Canberra coming off a gritty win in the Listed The Tradies National Sprint (1400m) at their home track
  • Zoomin (Michael Kent) – Cranbourne-based six-year-old having their first start since running third to Ginga Dude in the David Joes Cup at Caulfield in mid-October
  • Voice Commander (Nick Oliver) – Consistent Canberra galloper won the Listed Frank Underwood Cup (2000m) here in January
