Satin Shoes Stumbles On 2011 Golden Slipper Trek
Satin Shoes not as hot coming into 2011 Golden Slipper.
Satin Shoes had a major hiccup in the Reisling Slipper at Rosehill and has sent a few alarm bells ringing for punters who have taken her in the early markets for the 2011 Golden Slipper.
Backed into odds on territory for the six horse race many considered it a case of ‘by how much’ but that certainly didn’t prove to be the case.
Elite Falls put in a magnificent run and cruised to victory over the final 100m, proving the 1200m Golden Slipper distance is much more to her liking.
It’s not full panic stations yet though for Satin Shoes with some people likely to make excuses about the wet track and driving rain.
Having said that we think the distance is a bigger query and a change in race strategy could be a very real possibility during the Golden Slipper.
Satin Shoes was second favourite in futures betting before today but after the Todman and the Reisling had shock results markets have been thrown into chaos.
As they begin to re-settle it looks like Sepoy will retain favouritsim despite his loss but has drifted out to $3.
Smart Missile has made huge ground into $5 after that impressive win.
It will be very interesting to see if Satin Shoes and Elite Falls trade places but it’s probably more likely they’ll sit around the same odds.
One thing for sure though is a wet track come Golden Slipper Day will see the favourite filly and favourite colt drift again.
The results today may not have been good for punters but they are great for the race, tightening up the field and creating a genuine contest.
