Despite an average run in the Todman Stakes, Foxwedge has actually slightly firmed in early Golden Slipper betting markets.
While he did enough to claim third place, he never made a big impression on the Rosehill race and finished a decent margin behind the first two.
His firming in Golden Slipper betting can only really be put down to the fact Sepoy was beaten, evening out the entire field.
Smart Missile has of course come right into contention and is the new second favourite after his win but for Foxwedge, analysing the run is a lot more difficult.
He had good position during the race but once they straightened he didn’t really have the kick to go to that next level.
It’s a shame for his supporters who had big hopes of an upset after two big wins in his last two races.
Excuses have been made surrounding the wet track for a few horses and it’s only fair that the same is applied to Foxwedge, but even then the extra kick of a quality horse was completely absent, not just diminished.
Before the Todman Stakes he was third in Golden Slipper betting at $9 and as we mentioned, despite his third place well behind two other contenders he’s now into $8.
With the immortality theory of Sepoy now well and truly broken the 2011 Golden Slipper is looking like a much more open contest.
As the markets settle down during the week Foxwedge will be one of the most interesting horses to keep tabs on.
