Coolmore Classic Day 2011 – Rosehill Race Results & Winners Wrap-Up

On Saturday March 19 Rosehill Racecourse hosted the opening meeting of the Golden Slipper Carnival with a top day’s racing taking place for Coolmore Classic Day 2011 and here we have the complete Rosehill Race Results.

Racing at Rosehill today was headlined by Race 7 – the $600,000 Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) which was won by the Mick Price-trained Aloha.

Aloha made a mess of her rivals in the 2011 Coolmore Classic Result easily defeating Jersey Lily and Melito to score her maiden Group 1 victory.

The next logical step for the impeccably-bred daughter of Encosta De Lago is the $400,000 Group 1 Queen of the Turf Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill’s Golden Slipper Day on April 2 where Aloha will likely come up against champion mare More Joyous.

Gai Waterhouse’s triple Group 1 winner More Joyous also enjoyed a big race win at Rosehill today, coasting home in the $175,000 Group 2 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) and firming her claims for the 2011 Doncaster Mile at Randwick on April 16.

The other feature event on the Coolmore Classic Day programme was Race 5 – the $400,000 Group 1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) where $101 roughie Zavite claimed a massive upset over Descarado ($3.50) and Hawk Island ($11).

Zavite’s Ranvet Stakes success has earned the eight-year-old a crack at the $2.25 million Group 1 The BMW (2400m), one of the premier events on the Golden Slipper Stakes day card this autumn.

Other highlights of the day included two Golden Slipper hopefuls winning their final lead-ups to the $3.5 million showdown.

Early Golden Slipper Stakes favourites Sepoy and Satin Shoes both suffered their first career defeats in Rosehill races two and three today.

In the Todman Stakes Sepoy failed to perform in the wet and could only manage to finish three-quarters of a length away from Anthony Cumming’s improving Fastnet Rock colt Smart Missile.

Then in the Reisling Stakes for fillies, Clarry Conners’ daughter of Flying Spur Satin Shoes was easily beaten by the up-and-coming Elite Falls.

Both Smart Missile and Elite Falls are now sure to firm in the 2011 Golden Slipper Odds & Field Futures at Luxbet.
