2011 Phar Lap Stakes Field & Form – Coolmore Classic Day

Coolmore Classic Day is only 24 hours away and the thrilling nine-card race program will feature the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes as Race 6 this Saturday March 19, 2011, and here at Races.com.au we have put together the best 2011 Phar Lap Stakes form.

The $175,000 Phar Lap Stakes is a 1,500 metre set-weights race for three-year-olds only.

The 2011 Phar Lap Stakes is due to jump at 3.30pm (AEDST) at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse.

Current favourite to win the Phar Lap Stakes is recent Australian Guineas runner-up Bullbars, who is paying odds of $3.40 for the win at Luxbet.

Bullbars has never competed at this distance, or at this track, but has only failed to place twice in eight starts.

The Elusive Quality colt has drawn barrier eight for the 2011 Phar Lap Stakes and will be ridden by jockey Kerrin McEvoy.

Also included in the 2011 Phar Lap Stakes field are Gai Waterhouse’s two solid hopes, Fast Clip and Halekulani.

Fast Clip will jump from gate two and will have jockey Nash Rawiller on board, while Halekulani will be ridden by apprentice jockey Tommy Berry and will jump from barrier six.

2011 Phar Lap Stakes Form & Field

#1 Bullbars

  • 8-2-2-2
  • 4th race this prep
  • Bullbars will most likely sit back and then make his move in the later stages of the race, and he has displayed how talented he is at this, finishing second in the Australian Guineas last start.

#2 Fast Clip

  • 8-4-2-0
  • 5th race this prep
  • Fast Clip moved back in grade last start to a mid-week race and won by a length despite being top weight. He appears ready to tackle the better fields and should perform well here.

#3 Halekulani

  • 5-2-1-2
  • 3rd race this prep
  • Halekulani should be well suited to the 1,500 metre distance and will have gained valuable experience form his third placing last start in the Listed Eskimo Prince Stakes, where he made some mistakes. He should be in the finish here.

#4 Shadows In The Sun

  • 13-2-0-2
  • 3rd race this prep
  • Shadows In The Sun really needs to pick up his game if he has a change of finishing in the placings here. He finished 13 out of 14 runners last start, but this jump to a longer distance here will do him the world of good.

#5 Blackie

  • 4-3-0-0
  • 3rd race this prep
  • Blackie has a very nice record so far and has proven his ability to perform. This will be his first attempt at a Group race but we think he’s in with a chance.

#6 Slater

  • 7-2-0-0
  • 4th race this prep
  • Slater will be wearing blinkers for the first time here, but they will have to work wonders to give him a chance of finishing in the placings.

#7 Originate

  • 6-1-1-0
  • 3rd race this prep
  • Originate scored his first win after returning as a gelding two-starts back, and then was checked in his last race at Sandown and finished tenth. If things go his way he may do well.

#8 Sworn To Secrecy

  • 6-2-3-1
  • 3rd race this prep
  • This filly is on the path to the Oaks and will be on a six day turnaround after finishing 2nd in the Listed Canberra Guineas last Sunday. Very promising.

#9 Magic Ivy

  • 5-1-0-0
  • 5th race this prep
  • Doesn’t appear to be up to the same level as the rest of the field and will be taking a steep step up in class for this race. Not sure she is quite ready.
