2011 Bunbury Cup Field, Betting & Preview

While the racing action in Sydney today focuses on the Group 3 Newcastle Newmarket Handicap (1400m), WA racing fans also have an exciting black-type race to enjoy with the 2011 Bunbury Cup set to take place this afternoon.

Scheduled to run as Bunbury Race 9 at 7:57pm (AEDST), the $130,000 Listed Bunbury Cup (2200m) features a crack field of 15 stayers lead by current favourite #13 Ringmeister.

Drawn in barrier seven and set to carry 54kg with jockey Paul Harvey in the mount, the Lindsey Smith-trained Ringmeister sits at the top of the Bunbury Cup odds at Luxbet paying $4.60.

The Arena four-year-old is coming off a last-start second in a 2200m race at Ascot where they carried 57.5kg and they are sure to advantage from the drop back in weight today for their first black-type assignment.

Close second favourite in the Bunbury Cup betting markets at Luxbet is #8 Significant paying a very backable $5.

Despite their wide barrier 13 draw, four-year-old Flying Spur mare Significant is the Races.com.au favourite to become the Bunbury Cup winner and score their fourth victory on the trot.

The Grant Williams-trained Significant scored back-to-back wins over the mile at Ascot in February before claiming a gritty victory in a 3YO Open Handicap over 2000m at Bunbury last start on March 6.

Other horses in the 2011 Bunbury Cup field to consider include:
