2011 Maurice McCarten Stakes Final Field & Barrier Draw Released

Coolmore Classic Day at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday March 12, 2011, will be drawn to a close with the running of the $100,000 Listed Maurice McCarten Stakes in Race 9.

The 1,100 metre Listed Maurice McCarten Stakes is a quality handicap open to all horses aged three-years-old and upwards and has this year attracted a 14 horse final field.

Swift Alliance

Swift Alliance tops the 2011 Maurice McCarten Stakes final field

Gai Waterhouse’s Swift Alliance features in the 2011 Listed Maurice McCarten Stakes final field and will be looking for his 9th win from 16 starts.

Swift Alliance has already accrued more than $500,000 in prize money and will be running from barrier eight on Saturday.

The five-year-old Don Eduardo entire has been allocated as 61kg top weight for the Maurice McCarten Stakes and will be ridden by jockey Nash Rawiller.

Another member of the 2011 Listed Maurice McCarten Stakes final field is Tim Martin’s Monton, who will be first-up in Saturday’s race.

Monton finished eighth last start in the Group 1 Telegraph Handicap and will be hoping that his two month freshen-up will be enough to turn his performances around.

The Catbird gelding has won four of his 13 starts so far, including the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes on February 27, 2010.

Monton has drawn barrier seven for the 2011 Listed Maurice McCarten Stakes and will be ridden by jockey Hugh Bowman.

Making a return to racing in the Maurice McCarten Stakes will be Star of Octagonal, who has not had a run since breaking down in the Group 3 Patinack Farm Cameron Handicap on September 15, 2010.

Prior to that race, the Octagonal gelding had won three of his six starts and had never finished outside the placings.

Star Of Octagonal will be ridden by jockey Corey Brown in 2011 Listed Maurice McCarten Stakes and will be jumping from gate four.

Also included in the race are Darren Smith’s Atomic Force, Clarry Conners’ Dorf Command and David Payne’s Winter King.
