2011 Coolmore Classic Day – Sky High Stakes Field & Barriers

The 2011 Coolmore Classic Day at Rosehill on Saturday kicks off Sydney’s Golden Slipper Carnival, the cracker meet featuring nine quality races including the $100,000 Listed Sky High Stakes (1900m).

Luen Yat Forever

Luen Yat Forever is the top-rated horse in the Listed Sky High Stakes field, but has failed to impress this preparation

The 2011 Sky High Stakes has drawn a 10-horse final field with Peter Moody’s former Macau galloper Luen Yat Forever the top-rated acceptor.

Drawn well in barrier three, Honours List five-year-old Luen Yat Forever is also the 59.5kg top-weight of the Sky High Stakes field.

Third-up for the season, Luen Yat Forever has failed to impress so far this preparation running eighth to Typhoon Tracy in the Group 1 CF Orr Stakes (1400m) on February 12 and then ninth to Danleigh in the Group 1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) last start at Warwick Farm on March 5.

A Group 1 winner back in Macau, the step down in class and up in distance the Sky High Stakes provides should see good improvement from Luen Yat Forever.

Horses likely to start at the top of the Sky High Stakes odds at Luxbet include:

  • Base (Robert Hickmott) – Zabeel four-year-old drawn in the far outside barrier 10 but has time to make it up, Craig Williams in the mount and well-weighted with 53kg which is a huge drop in weights from the 59kg they carried to victory over 1800m at Sandown last start on March 2
  • Lamasery (David Vandyke) – Up-and-coming Commands gelding coming off four consecutive wins, the last three of which were over 1800m and the last two at the Rosehill track, perfect barrier two draw and top jockey Corey Brown in the mount
  • Miss Keepsake (Joseph Pride) – Four-year-old Keeper mare coming off an eye-catching second to Warpath in the Listed Aspiration Quality (1600m) at Warwick Farm last weekend
  • Older Than Time (Gai Waterhouse) – Consistent four-year-old mare has won four of her eight career starts including all three of her runs this prep, stepping up to stakes company for the first time but should be competitive having won her last three starts by huge margins carrying between 57.5 kg and 59.5kg and drops back to just 53kg for the Sky High, also drawn on the rails
