2011 Canterbury Stakes Final Field & Preview

More Joyous

More Joyous will start the favourite in the 2011 Canterbury Stakes field

This Saturday Rosehill Racecourse will host the opening meet of the 2011 Golden Slipper Carnival and one of the top races on the programme will be the $175,000 Group 2 Canterbury Stakes (1300m).

The 2011 Canterbury Stakes has drawn a final field of just five horses lead by Gai Waterhouse’s stable star More Joyous.

Set to jump from barrier five with Nash Rawiller in the mount, More Than Ready four-year-old More Joyous will likely open odds-on favourite in the Canterbury Stakes betting at Luxbet as she meets her rivals 2kg better in the weights carrying 57kg.

A four-timed Group 1 winner, More Joyous is coming off back-to-back victories this preparation having won the Group 2 Breeders Classic (1200m) first-up by an easy 2 ½ lengths at Randwick on February 12 before beating home Whobegotyou in the Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield’s Blue Diamond Stakes Day last start.

More Joyous’ 2011 Canterbury Stakes Rivals are:

  • Rangirangdoo (Chris Waller) – This six-year-old Pentire gelding makes their return to racing after a lengthy spell, winner of the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) last start in April 2010, Rangirangdoo is coming off two promising barrier trials at Rosehill over the past five weeks and will jump from barrier four with Corey Brown in the mount.
  • Love Conquers All (Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes) – Ideal barrier two draw for this classy Mossman four-year-old, ran second to Centennial Park in the Group 2 Expressway Stakes before finishing a well-beaten fifth to Melito last start in the Apollo Stakes here on February 19.
  • Empires Choice (Bart Cummings) – Cummings’ Queensland Derby winner back in 2007, has done little since. Only recent run worth a mention was their third to More Joyous in the Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m) last September. First-up for the season on Saturday in barrier three with Hugh Bowman aboard, but could be a scratching if connections decide to run in the Newcastle Newmarket Handicap tomorrow instead.
  • Demerit (Peter Snowden) – Best Place Chance of the field, drawn on the rails in barrier one the improving Lonhro four-year-old resumes for the season after a decent spring campaign.

To bet on More Joyous at the best price and to access the premium betting markets for the other Rosehill features on Saturday including the 2011 Coolmore Classic, head over to our preferred online bookmaker Luxbet today.

Join Luxbet now, deposit any amount between $25 and $400 and quote the exclusive promotional code BONUSBET and Luxbet will match your first deposit dollar for dollar as a FREE BET!
