Friday Night Racing Nominations – 2011 Alister Clark Stakes

The Group 2 Alister Clark Stakes will be the highlight of this week’s Moonee Valley Friday Night Racing in Melbourne with 17 horses nominated for the event.

The race runs over a 1600m distance for three-year-old colts and geldings and is worth $200,000.

Folding Gear

Folding Gear is the top-rated horse in the 2011 Alister Clark Stakes field nominations

The top rated nominee for the 2011 Alister Clark Stakes is Folding Gear which has recently hit an excellent run of form.

The New Zealand three-year-old had a modest start in his first two races but a win at Hillside kick started a fantastic win last start in the Yalumba 162 at Caulfield.

Elusive King finished second behind Folding Gear in that last start race following another second in the race before that at Moonee Valley.

A fourth on debut is his worst result with another three second placings and a win creating a very consistent early form guide for this horse.

Gilded Spur has a very different looking form guide having won well in smaller races and competed in big races where he’s been outclassed.

The Autumn Stakes is perhaps the best example where he struggled with the quality finishing 10th of 11.

Having said that this field will not be as good and with a last start win at Sandown and a bit more experience than the others he’s definitely a chance.

If you’re after a smokey, at decent odds is expected to be I Think I Do which has only the single win from five starts.

He finished one spot ahead of Gilded Spur in the Autumn Stakes and out of the money again in the Yalumba Classic but after a drop in class he could be ready for a decent performance.
