Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
The 2011 Todman Slipper Trial once again revealed a strong field when nominations were released for the race at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse this Saturday March 19, 2011.
The Group 3 Todman Slipper Trial will be one of the main lead-up races to the $3.5 million Golden Slipper on April 2, 2011.
Worth $300,000, the 2011 Todman Slipper Trial is open to two-year-old colts and geldings only and will be run under set weight conditions.
All eyes will be on Blue Diamond Stakes winner Sepoy, who is among the 2011 Todman Slipper Trials nominations.
Sepoy won all three legs of the Blue Diamond and has remained unbeaten in all of his four runs in his career so far.
Peter Snowden, Sepoy’s trainer, has decided to run his colt in the 2011 Todman Slipper Trial after the two-year-old impressed him during his morning track work performance.
“I am happy with his work this morning,” Snowden said.
“He pulled up well although he had a little bit of a blow which was understandable with his first serious piece of work since the Blue Diamond three weeks ago, but I could not be happier with the way he worked this morning.”
Peter Snowden is confident Sepoy will be in form for Saturday’s Todman Slipper Trial.
“He is great order (and) if I can get him the same as Diamond Day I will be happy,” Snowden said.
“He is a really exciting horse and I just have to get him back there in that sort of frame of mind (for the Golden Slipper) two weeks from Saturday,” he said.
There had been much speculation about whether Sepoy would even have a start at all before the 2011 Golden Slipper, but Peter Snowden has decided that a run in this Saturday’s Todman Slipper Trial would do the Elusive Quality colt the world of good.
“He does not seem to get off-stride at all and he is just showing me nothing to say I should not be running him and I think five weeks from the Diamond is too long for a colt who eats as well as he does,” he said.
Sepoy is currently paying odds of $2 at favourite in the 2011 Golden Slipper betting at Luxbet.
Also included in the 2011 Todman Slipper Trial nominations is John O’Shea’s Foxwedge, who is currently third favourite in the Golden Slipper betting at Luxbet, paying $9.50.
Foxwedge won the $100,00 Clarry Conners Plate at Warwick Farm last start and remains unbeaten from two runs.
The Fastnet Rocket colt is most likely to be Sepoy’s biggest threat in the 2011 Todman Slipper Trial.
Also nominated for the 2011 Todamn Slipper Trial are Bart Cummings’ Do You Think, Chris Waller’s Flying Zero and Peter Moody’s Golden Archer.
