Monday Group Race Betting Update – Adelaide Cup Day Favourites

With the excitement of 2011 Adelaide Cup Day building punters right around the country are pouring money into betting markets for the entire ten race program.

Of course the 2011 Adelaide Cup is the big one but the three other Group races are attracting plenty of attention given their top class fields.

With the first Group race now only a couple of hours away lets have a look at the main threats for the feature races on Adelaide Cup Day at Morphettville racecourse.

 2011 Auraria Stakes:

Southern Speed has retained favouritism and in fact strengthened his position overnight. Now into $2.20 after opening at $2.60 it’s all one way traffic for the horse unbeaten until last weeks Australian Guineas. The big story though is Always Discreet which after opening at $4.00 is now a massive $10 chance on the Luxbet fixed price markets. Absolutely has gone the other way, after opening at big odds is now the only other horse into single figures at $4.40.

 2011 RN Irwin Stakes:

With just seven runners still remaining Avenue has continued to firm and has come into $1.70, well clear of Augusta Proud which is out a point to $5.50. Diplomatic Force has also weakened half a point to $6.00 and it’s a similar story of Obsidian Dragon now at $8.50. There’s only one horse they want here, absolute one way traffic.

 2011 Adelaide Cup:

It’s the King Diamond story for the main race with punters swarming once he got out to $6.00 quickly chasing him back in to $3.60. Macedonian and Guyno keep trading blows  to sit level on $6.50 with the only other contender at single digits being the in form Maunatrice at healthy $9 odds.

 2011 Yallambee Classic:

Obsequious has slightly narrowed the gap overnight between her and the favourite Stirling Grove. It’s now just half a point after Stirling Grove shifted out a touch to $3.70 and Obsequious came in to $4.20. Bigelow has had a nibble at $6.00 into $5.50 in much the same way Shrapnel has come into $8.50. The only other shift worth noting is Belfast Boy which got out to $31 back came right back in to the opening $26 odds.
