The horses came around the home turn bunched together until Saint Encosta took the inside run down the rail to win ahead of Alexander of Hales who finished second and Scottish Border who ran on for third.
Before today, Saint Encosta had been unlucky in racing, winning only one of his 17 race starts to date.
This Group 3 Randwick City Stakes victory was the four-year-old Encosta De Lago gelding’s first win since his maiden victory in a $14,000 Newcastle maiden plate.
