Ilovethiscity (black silks) wins the 2011 Randwick Guineas from Skilled (red and white silks)
The 2011 Randwick Guineas was the main feature race of Turnpoint Randwick Guineas Day and was the only Group 1 of the day.
Worth a whopping $500,000, the 2011 Randwick Guineas was raced over 1,600 metres and is Sydney’s premier three-year-old mile event.
Ilovethiscity jumped well from the gates while Top Drop began the race badly, missing the start.
Pressday shot to an early lead and remained three lengths ahead of the rest of the field until the home turn.
Ilovethiscity began to circle the field from his settling position at about midfield and eventually stormed his way to the lead down the home straight.
Ilovethiscity just beat Peter Snowden’s Skilled, who finished second, while Light Brigade finished third.
The Magic Albert colt has now won back to back Group titles, after he won the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes at Rosehill last start.
Ilovethiscity had been supported in the betting since markets opened and was odds on favourite at Luxbet, paying $1.90.
Grahame Begg will now aim his Group 1 winning colt at the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes on Golden Slipper Day at Rosehill Gardens on April 2, 2011, after a quick three week freshen-up.
The talented colt will then be sent to the $1.5 million Doncaster Mile on April 16, 2011.
