Black Caviar Firms in Newmarket Betting – Flemington Race 7 Odds & Field Update

Black Caviar

Black Caviar has firmed in betting for the 2011 Newmarket Handicap

With hulking New South Wales speedster Hay List scratched from the 2011 Newmarket Handicap field this morning, the price on dominant favourite Black Caviar have continued to firm with little chance of an upset in the $1 million sprint this Saturday, March 12.

The John McNair-trained Hay List was considered the only possible rival to stop Peter Moody’s unbeaten mare Black Caviar from making history and winning her 10th consecutive race in the $1 million Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) at Flemington tomorrow.

Hay List was the $13 second-favourite in the 2011 Newmarket Handicap odds at Luxbet before connections withdrew him from the showdown following veterinary advice regarding the five-year-olds’ sore shoulder.

Brilliant Bel Esprit four-year-old and World Champion sprinter Black Caviar now moves into barrier seven for the Newmarket, Hay List having been allocated gate three before his scratching.

Yesterday Black Caviar was paying $1.25 as the dominant Newmarket Handicap favourite at Luxbet and any punters that got her at that price were lucky as she has now firmed even further, now at a nearly unbackable quote of $1.20.

Other 2011 Newmarket Handicap Betting Market Movers

  • #5 Star Witness ($16 into $14 Luxbet) – Danny O’Brien’s dual Group 1 winning colt Star Witness has firmed into second-favouritism in the Newmarket odds with Hay List now out. As a three-year-old that has won at this track and distance, drawn ideally in barrier two and set to carry just 53kg – any other year this race would be his. Take him for the Place, or if you’re really brave, the only one capable of becoming the upset winner.
  • #6 Beaded ($26 into $21 Luxbet) – Peter Snowden’s five-year-old Lonhro mare is the real Newmarket betting market firmer, backed in $5 in the past day. Beaded will start from barrier six one inside the favourite and is carrying just 52.5kg meaning she meets Black Caviar 5.5kg better in the weights. This has attracted the attention of the punters as has the fact Beaded is coming off a last start win at Caulfield where she carried 57.5kg and jumped from a horror barrier 15 draw. Won’t Win – Can Place.
  • #8 King Pulse ($61 out to $81 Luxbet) – Odds on last year’s Newmarket Handicap fourth-placegetter continue to drift. He was badly injured moments after that race 12 months ago, breaking his pelvis during the freak hail storm that hit. He resumed in the Lightning Stakes finishing 8 ½ lengths away from Black Caviar and even though it would be the fairytale finish of the century for him to come back and win, we are with the punters – No Chance.
