2011 Randwick Guineas To Feature Skilled Assualt

It’s a race in three according to punters in the 2011 Turnpoint Randwick Guineas and why would you argue after the trio took out the trifecta last start in the Hobartville Stakes.

The problem comes in pinpointing which one will cross the line first with many saying Ilovethiscity will go back to back but Retrieve has received plenty of support as well.

Skilled is receiving a lot of attention and is the current second favourite for the 2011 Randwick Guineas

However it’s the third place getter snatching a lot of the recent attention and Skilled is now a comfortable second favourite at Luxbet at $4.20.

He’s also the favourite with Peter Snowden stable (who trains Retrieve and Skilled) as shown by their appointment of top jockey Kerrin McEvoy for the Skilled ride.

“There isn’t a lot between Skilled and Retrieve, they are both quality colts.

“Skilled has been racing very well and it all points to a good run from him in the Guineas,” McEvoy said.

Skilled finished third in both the Hobartville Stakes and Royal Sovereign but he didn’t have a lot of luck in both his first and second up runs.

Another major factor is the step up to 1600m from the last start 1400m, and 1200m in the Sovereign.

Skilled looks best over the increased distance with 1600m the last distance at which he has recorded a victory.

“I’ve ridden him in work since his last run and he looks in top shape. He’s drawn a nice marble and is versatile enough to take advantage of that, he can be handy or sit just off them,” he said.

With the race lacking any genuine pacemakers it will probably be Light Brigade working to the front with Skilled sitting one back.

Ilovethiscity remains the bookies favourite at $2.40 on Luxbet but there could be a bit of movement as we draw closer to race time.

Retrieve is at $5.50 with the next closest runner the out of form Pressday at $10.
