Adelaide Cup Day – 2011 RN Irwin Stakes Field

The 2011 RN Irwin Stakes will have a relatively small field providing a good opportunity to increase your stack on 2011 Adelaide Cup Day at Morphettville Racecourse.

There are just nine contenders for the Group 3 race chasing $115,000 in prize money.

One of the most noteworthy runners is the Michael Kavanagh trained Catapulted.

The five-year-old was sluggish last start in the Oakleigh Plate but won the Rubiton Stakes just two weeks earlier.

He’ll be up against a lesser quality field in the RN Irwin Stakes so will surely be one of the punters favourites.

Looking to make it difficult though will be the six-year-old gelding Diplomatic Force which won the RN Irwin Stakes back in 2009.

He’s only had the single win since that event but it did come last start in a decent quality handicap.

In even better form though and likely to be heavily backed by punters is the Peter Moody trained Avenue.

The four-year-old mare was beaten to second by Catapulted in the Rubiton but came out firing in the Oakleigh last start to grab another second place.

She’s actually finished first or second in five of her last six with on overall career win rate of 44 percent.

The betting markets for the 2011 RN Irwin Stakes will be very interesting with a couple of horses trading results over each other in recent starts.
