Acceptances for all the Super Saturday of Racing events set to run at Flemington this Saturday March 5 have been released including those for the $500,000 Group 2 Kewney Stakes (1400m).
The 2011 Kewney Stakes has attracted a final field of 16 three-year-old fillies plus two emergencies, with Brazilian Pulse leading the list of acceptors.
The Michael Moroney-trained Brazilian Pulse is resuming for the season in the Kewney Stakes this weekend following a brilliant spring preparation that included a last-start win in the Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m) at Flemington on November 4.
A winner of four of her six career starts to date, Brazilian Pulse has drawn ideally with barrier three and is due to be ridden by champion hoop Craig Williams.
Brazilian Pulse is being aimed at the Group 1 Australian Oaks (2400m) at Randwick on April 16.
Leading Victorian trainer Peter Moody has four of his fillies entered for this year’s Kewney Stakes with Willow Creek, Sayahailmary, Zelsnitz and Do Ra Mi.
Of the Moody contingent Sayahailmary coming off a last start second in the Group 2 Angus Armanasco Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on February 26 has come up trumps with barrier one in the Kewney Stakes draw while his Snitzel filly Zelsnitz has also drawn well with gate five.
Savabeel filly Do Ra Mi who ran second to Southern Speed as the beaten favourite in the Group 3 The Mittys Vanity (1400m) at Flemington on February 19 and Willow Creek have some work to do on Saturday, both fillies suffering a blow with wide barrier draws set to jump from gates 13 and 14 respectively.
Other Notable Fillies in the 2011 Kewney Stakes Field Include:
- Sistine Angel (Andrew Noblet) – Testa Rossa filly won multiple Group races last spring and is coming off a third in the Angus Armanasco, drawn in barrier eight and due to be ridden by Damien Oliver
- Divorces (Peter Snowden) – Resuming for the season after mixed results last preparation, well suited to the 1400m having won the Thousand Guineas Prelude over this distance in September
- Kittens (Mark Kavanagh) – Redoute’s Choice filly drawn in barrier 10 with Michael Rodd booked for the ride, ran a gallant fourth in the Crown Oaks last start
- Ain’tnofallenstar (Lee Freedman) – Good barrier four draw on Saturday for the daughter of Starcraft who won the Listed HC Nitschke Stakes (1400m) at Morphettville on February 26
Scheduled to run as Flemington Race 5 on Saturday, the 2011 Kewney Stakes is due to jump at 1:55pm (AEDST).
