Australian Oaks 2011 Nominations Feature 94 Fillies

One of the premier showdowns for three-year-old fillies held at the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival is the $550,000 Group 1 AJC Australian Oaks (2400m) to be held at Randwick on Doncaster Mile Day April 16 and the nominations for the 2011 Australian Oaks have been released.

The 2011 Patinack Farm AJC Oaks early entries feature 94 fillies including last weekend’s upset winner of the Group 1 Australian Guineas, Shamrocker.

The Danny O’Brien-trained Shamrocker was runner-up to Brazilian Pulse in last year’s Crown Oaks but still went out in the Australian Guineas as a $31 roughie before storming home to claim a tidy win over Peter Snowden’s Elusive Quality colt Bullbars.

O’Brien has also entered his improving grey filly Frenetica and Crown Oaks third placegetter Placement along with Shamrocker for the Australian Oaks 2011.

The filly that narrowly defeated Shamrocker in the 2010 Crown Oaks, Brazilian Pulse is also among the 2011 Australian Oaks nominations and is set to resume racing this Saturday March 12 in the Group 2 Kewney Stakes at Flemington.

Sydney’s leading lady of racing Gai Waterhouse, who won the 2010 AJC Oaks with Once Were Wild, has nominated three of her fillies for this year’s event with consistent Encosta De Lago three-year-old Ice Creme, Timarete and More Strawberries.

Of the trio More Strawberries is Waterhouse’s best chance of back-to-back AJC Oaks, the daughter of More Than Ready having already amassed $685,450 in prize money from her two career wins in the Group 2 Furious Stakes (1400m) and Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes (1500m) during her spring preparation.

Another early favourite among the 2011 AJC Oaks nominees is the Greg Eurell-trained Pinker Pinker.

Classy Reset filly Pinker Pinker enjoyed a brilliant win on Blue Diamond Stakes Day at Caulfield on February 26 taking out the Group 2 Angus Armanasco Stakes (1400m) and earning a shot at the AJC Oaks.

The 2011 Patinack Farm Australian Oaks final field of acceptances will be released on Wednesday April 13 and published here at along with the barrier draw and race form guide.
