2011 Blamey Stakes – Nominations Released

The 2011 Blamey Stakes will be running this at Flemington Racecourse this Saturday March 12, 2011, and nominations have revealed that 21 talented horses have nominated.

The Group 2 Blamey Stakes is raced over 1,600 metres and is worth a tidy $250,000 in prize money.

Open to horses aged three-years-old and above, the 2011 Blamey Stakes nominations this year includes a number of impressive names in Australian racing, including C’est La Guerre, Lord Pyrus, Doubtful Jack and Whobegotyou.

Whobegotyou finished a gallant second to champion mare More Joyous last start in the Group 1 Futurity Stakes.

The five-year-old Street Cry gelding has already had an exciting career that has seen him win eight of his 26 starts, including multiple Group 1 titles.

Odds for Whobegotyou in the 2011 Blamey Stakes will be available shortly at Luxbet.

Judy Mawer’s Lord Pyrus has been nominated in hope of bettering his last start performance when he finished fifth in the St George Stakes at Caulfield on February 26.

Prior to that, the Pyrus gelding won the Group 3 Carlyon Cup by 2.5 lengths on February 12, 2011.

Peter Moody’s Doubtful Jack is also nominated for the 2011 Blamey Stakes.

Doubtful Jack began this preparation in perfect form, when he won the Listed THE.TOTE.COM.AU Stakes on January 27, 2011.

While he has been unable to place in his last two races, the Not A Single Doubt four-year-old has won eight of his 18 previous career starts, giving him a win percentage of 44%.

Also included in the 2011 Blamey Stakes nominations are Danny O’Brien’s Eraset, Robert Hickmott’s I’m Imposing and Steve Richards’ Playwright.
