2011 Lord Reim’s Stakes Form Guide

Last start winner Guyno (left) has good form coming into the Group 3 Lord Reims Stakes

#1 – Guyno (Barrier – 1) (56kgs)

  • Trainer: Lou Luciani
  • Jockey: Jason Whiting
  • Career Stats: 49s – 7w – 17p
  • Last Start: 1st at Mornington

With a last start win in the Mornington Cup and a second previously in the Perth Cup this seven-year-old warhorse certainly isn’t short of a gallop. He’s based in Western Australia but is looking for a few good races during the Adelaide Cup Carnival and a win here would put him right into the main event. Gets barrier one and a drop in weight, has to be a chance.

#2 – King Diamond (Barrier – 8) (55kgs)

  • Trainer: mark Kavanagh
  • Jockey: Chris Symons
  • Career Stats: 12s – 4w – 4p
  • Last Start: 1st at Flemington

This horse looks the goods winning three of his last four as well as a second place. He likes the track as well with two and a place from three starts but has never been on a trip this long. Another win here and this horse could go anywhere, he just needs to get it right on the day.

#3 – Saddler’s Story (Barrier – 2) (55kgs)

  • Trainer: Robert Smerdon
  • Jockey: n/a
  • Career Stats: 49s – 8w – 2p
  • Last Start: 6th at Flemington

Forget the place bet with this horse because it’s either going to win or finish nowhere. He likes to get back but wouldn’t want to give them too much of a start in this race. One big bonus is he’s one of the few horses to have won at distances longer than this one so you know he’ll run the trip easily.

#4 – Big Ted (Barrier – 5) (54kgs)

  • Trainer: Ivan Haggerty
  • Jockey: Paul Gatt
  • Career Stats: 20s – 5w – 6p
  • Last Start: 5th at Morphettville

Has been quite a consistent horse over at Ascot regularly snagging a place but never really getting to that next level. It’s tough to see him changing that here having never run the distance and without a win for nearly a year. Could be a value placer though.

#5 – Mateo (Barrier – 9) (54kgs)

  • Trainer: Tony Noonan
  • Jockey: Simon Price
  • Career Stats: 24s – 3w – 4p
  • Last Start: 1st at Moonee Valley

Has won two of his last five both times at big odds and it’s tough to see him in any shorter for this one. Never run at the track but that last start win was over 2500m so he should go the journey. Isn’t a horse that likes to place but you never know.

#6 – Maunatrice (Barrier – 3) (54kgs)

  • Trainer: Darren Weir
  • Jockey: n/a
  • Career Stats: 24s – 9w – 2p
  • Last Start: 1st at Morphettville

Has to be one of the favourites for the race after winning her last four straight. At this track she’s got the best record with three from four and she’s won over 2500m this year. On recent form it looks like hers to lose and has to be part of any trifecta.

#7 – Lady Avacan (Barrier – 7) (53kgs)

  • Trainer: Sue Jaensch
  • Jockey: Craig Robertson
  • Career Stats: 42s – 10w – 10p
  • Last Start: 4th at Morphettville

This six-year-old mare has been to Morphettville eight times for only the one win and two places. She’s never tackled this distance with her longest win coming over 2200m. She did put two in a row not long back and came home last start from last to almost grab a place on the line.

#8 – Rain Shadow (Barrier – 4) (53kgs)

  • Trainer: Mark Kavanagh
  • Jockey: n/a
  • Career Stats: 13s – 4w – 1p
  • Last Start: 6th at Morphettville

Won at Caulfield two starts back over 2000m but that’s the longest race she’s ever won. The extra 600m has to be a big query even with the light 53kg weight. Last start she faded to sixth down the strait over 2019m only adding to the argument she won’t run the trip.

#9 – Zauberin (Barrier – 6) (53kgs)

  • Trainer: Russell Cameron
  • Jockey: Dean Holland
  • Career Stats: 23s – 3w – 5p
  • Last Start: 2nd at Morphettville

Ran second last start in the Port Adelaide Cup ahead of a few of these horses. Longest race she’s ever won though was only 1620m. She did compete in a 2800m event last year but fell around the final turn. Should be at decent odds for the value hunters.
