Stirling Grove

Stirling Grove wins Caulfield Race 1 on Blue Diamond Stakes Day

The first race at Caulfield’s Blue Diamond Stakes Day has been won by Richard Jolly’s Stirling Grove.

The three-year-old gelding won the Premier Signs Plate by a long neck in Race 1 on Blue Diamond Stakes Day.

The 1200m Premier Signs Plate was open to three-year-olds only and was worth $70,000.

Stirling Grove jumped well from the gates and found himself leading the field one out from the rail in the early stages.

Éclair Mystic, who was the late market mover- moving in from $3.50 to $2.60 at Luxbet– had a very easy on pace run up front on the rail.

It appeared to be a two horse race between Éclair Mystic and Stirling Grove down the home straight until Stirling Grove stormed ahead of the field around 150 metres from home.

Utah Saints finished well to get home for second, while Too Deadly, who was held up for a run, did well to finish third.

Éclair Mystic died in her run down the strait and finished a disappointing last.

Stirling Grove was the top weight in the 2011 Premier Signs Plate field and paid odds of $3.30 at Luxbet.

The Mossman gelding will now either be sent back to his home track for the Adelaide carnival, or may stay to contend some of the Stakes level races in Melbourne.

The 2011 Premier Signs Plate was won in a fast time of 1 minute and 9.37 seconds.
