Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Champion-in-the-making Sepoy has won all three legs of the Blue Diamond after blitzing the field in the 2011 Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield in Melbourne today.
The feature race at Caulfield’s Blue Diamond Stakes Day today was won in breathtaking style by the Elusive Quality colt, who out-classed the field by an astonishing four and a quarter lengths.
The Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes was worth a whopping $1 million and is a 1,200 metre race for two-year-olds only.
Sepoy has now added $600,000 to his career earnings, now winning almost $800,000 from just four starts.
Unfortunately for his owner, Sepoy is not entitled to the $1 million bonus for winning all three legs of the Blue Diamond, due to having only 11 horses in the Blue Diamond Prelude field, when 12 were required to be eligible.
The Elusive Quality colt had history against him being odds-on favourite to win the 2011 Blue Diamond Stakes, with no favourites winning this race since 1982.
The Peter Snowden-trained colt was ridden to victory by regular jockey Kerrin McEvoy from barrier five.
Sepoy ran to the lead early, with Hallowell Belle and Anevay close behind. annihilate
Anevay led at the home turn ahead of Sepoy, until Sepoy hit the accelerator and sprinted to the lead.
The well backed Hallowell Belle finished well for second, while Masthead came home for third.
Peter Snowden will now send his winning colt to the paddock for a two-week freshen up before heading to the Golden Slipper on April 2, 2011.
