Folding Gear wins the The Yalumba 162 at Caulfield

The 2011 The Yalumba 162 has been won by Folding Gear in Race 4 on Caulfield’s Blue Diamond Stakes Day.

Folding Gear won the Group 2 The Yalumba 162, previously known as the Autumn Classic, by a head in front of Elusive King.

The market mover before the race was Almindoro, who was one of the only horses to shorten in odds after parading.

The race began with Elusive King getting away quickly and Almindoro beginning well, settling in the lead on the rail.

Almindoro was a half a length ahead of Clemente at the home turn when Kim Divine made a challenge down the outside.

Elusive King and Folding Gear quickly got out in front and battled it out down the home straight, finishing 3 1/2 lengths clear of the rest of the field.

Elusive King had the dream run from the better gate but was just outrun by roughie Folding Gear.

Folding Gear paid nice odds of $12.70 for his win at Luxbet.

Almindoro hung on for third after setting the pace for the majority of the race.

Almindoro was the favourite to win the 2011 The Yalumba 162, paying odds of $3.70 at Luxbet.

Folding Gear’s trainer, Mr Hope, now plans to send his winning gelding to either Adelaide for the Adelaide Carnival or to Sydney for their Autumn Carnival.
