2011 Millie Fox Stakes Nominations Announced

Nominations have been released for the 2011 Millie Fox Stakes that will be run as part of Silver Slipper Day at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday February 26, 2011.

The Group 3 Millie Fox Stakes is a 1,300 metre sprint for fillies and mares aged three-years-old and upwards.

Worth $125,000, the 2011 Millie Fox Stakes is a quality handicap and has once again enticed an impressive line-up of classy fillies and mares.

The 2011 Millie Fox Stakes has attracted 21 nominations, all vying for a starting position in the 12 horse field.

Odds for the final field will be released at Luxbet closer to the race date.

Amongst the nominations is David Pfeiffer’s Graceful Anna, who is coming off a courageous second placing behind superstar More Joyous in February 12’s Group 2 Breeders Classic.

Graceful Anna has won six of 13 starts and has accrued close to $1 million in prize money.

Also nominated is Grahame Begg’s Palacio De Cristal, who will be first up in the 2011 Millie Fox Stakes, and will be hoping to mimic last preparation’s first-up run where she won the Group 2 Blazer Stakes at Flemington.

Owned by Gerry Harvey, the five-year-old mare will run in the 2011 Millie Fox Stakes in preparation for the 2011 Coolmore Classic on March 19, 2011.

“She’s shown in the past she probably goes best when she’s fresh so the Millie Fox will be her one run into the Coolmore,” trainer Grahame Begg said.

Also nominated is Gai Waterhouse’s Montana Flyer, who finished fifth first-up in the Breeders Classic last start at Randwick.

The two-time Group winner will be looking for a win in the 2011 Millie Fox Stakes after a last preparation that saw her only manage to place once out of five starts.

Les Bridge’s Jersey Lily and Gerald Ryan’s Strawberry Field are also amongst the nominations.
