Angus Armanasco Stakes Nominations – 2011 Blue Diamond Stakes Day

One of the feature events on the Blue Diamond Stakes Day programme at Caulfield this Saturday is the $180,000 Group 2 Angus Armanasco Stakes (1400m) for three-year-old fillies.

The 2011 BMW Angus Armanasco Stakes has attracted 15 nominations including four from the stables of leading Victorian trainer Peter Moody.

Moody has nominated Miss Gai Flyer, Keep The Faith filly Sayahailmary, Group 2 winner Willow Creek and his improving daughter of Snitzel Zelsnitz for this year’s Angus Armanasco Stakes.

Of Moody’s entries Flying Spur filly Miss Gai Flyer looks his best chance of success after she won the Listed Kevin Hayes Stakes (1200m) by a tidy 2 ½ lengths over fellow Angus Armanasco nominees Miss Elvee and Pinker Pinker at Caulfield on February 12.

Other early favourites among the 2011 Angus Armanasco Stakes Nominations include:

  • Divorces (Peter Snowden) – Placed and won at Group level early during the spring but faded towards the end of the campaign, will be first-up if accepted for Saturday
  • Pinker Pinker (Greg Eurell) – Lightly-raced Reset filly most recently ran a first-up third to Miss Gai Flyer in the Kevin Hayes Stakes
  • Miss Elvee (Robbie Griffiths) – Second in the Kevin Hayes last start before which she won over 1200m at Caulfield, will be stepping up to Group company for the first time and should be competitive
  • Sistine Angel (Andrew Noblet) – Disappointing 14th in the Kevin Hayes, is a multiple Group winner and should improve second-up with the extra distance

The 2011 Angus Armanasco Stakes final field and barrier draw will be released this Wednesday, February 23 and published here at Races.com.au.

The feature Caulfield showdown this weekend is the $1 million Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) for two-year-olds, the final field out tomorrow.
