2011 Australian Guineas Betting Market Movers

After the latest Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival meet at Flemington last Saturday, there has been a huge shift in the 2011 Australian Guineas betting odds with We Can Say It Now the new favourite in the market.

Prior to Flemington’s Lightning Stakes Day programme on February 19, last year’s Caulfield Guineas winner Anacheeva was equal $8 favourite with the up-and-coming Enjin Number Nine through Luxbet to win the $750,000 Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) on March 5.

However, after both three-year-olds suffered defeat on the weekend the Australian Guineas odds saw a major reshuffle.

The Peter Moody-trained Anacheeva drifted out from $8 to $13 at Luxbet after finishing a well-beaten 11th behind Bullbars in the Group 3 CS Hayes Stakes (1400m).

Enjin Number Nine didn’t drift as far out in his Australian Guineas price after finishing fourth in the CS Hayes as the beaten favourite, odds on the Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra-trained gelding now $9.50.

Kiwi-trained filly We Can Say It Now, a Group 1 winner in New Zealand, is now the $8 favourite at Luxbet for the Australian Guineas having firmed in from $11 over the weekend.

Impressive winner of the CS Hayes Stakes, Peter Snowden’s Elusive Quality colt Bullbars is the $9 second elect after punters got him at $16 before his win on Saturday.

Bullbars is guaranteed a start in the Guineas field having earned a ballot exemption with the win.

CS Hayes runner-up Startsmeup and third placegetter Spirited Eagle have also firmed in the Guineas markets paying $19 and $13 respectively.

Startsmeup is the biggest Australian Guineas market firmer having sat at a quote of $101 last week before coming within a head of Bullbars on the line in the CS Hayes on Saturday.

The other Australian Guineas hopeful who earned a free pass into the field with a victory at Flemington last Saturday is unbeaten South Australian filly Southern Speed.

The Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas-trained filly took her record up to three wins from as many starts with an impressive victory in the Group 3 The Mittys Vanity (1400m) over favourite Do Ra Mi.

A $61 roughie for the Guineas last week, Southern Speed has shortened into $12 through Luxbet.

Below are the current 2011 Australian Guineas odds.
