Helmet Wins Rosehill Race 1 – Apollo Stakes Day

Helmet wins Race 1 at Rosehill on Apollo Stakes Day

Peter Snowden’s Helmet has won Race 1 at Rosehill today in The Australian Brewery Handicap.

The Exceed And Excel two-year-old  demonstrated lightning speed to win convincingly, despite some drama in the home straight.

Helmet was the late market mover at Luxbet and jumped well from the barriers to settle second behind Chew The Fat.

Chew The Fat appeared fired up at the front of the field and couldn’t continue his lead after the home turn when Helmet made his move at the 200 metres.

David Payne’s Florentina was following a length behind the leader down the home straight when Helmet ducked out across in front of the filly.

Helmet’s jockey Kerrin McEvoy did well to keep control of his ride and Helmet recovered and picked up speed to win by almost two lengths.

Florentina finished behind in second and Houston Benefactor came from the rear of the field to finish third.

Helmet is now aimed at the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes on February 26, 2011.

The colt is currently 13th in the ballot order for the Blue Diamond and his convincing run in today’s The Australian Brewery Handicap will be sure to increase his support in the betting at Luxbet.
