More Strawberries Scratched From The 2011 Light Fingers Stakes

The 2011 Light Fingers Stakes has already been subjected to two scratchings, with the two favourites More Strawberries and Secret Admirer being pulled out of the race.

The Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes is due to jump at 4.10pm (AEDST) as Race 6 at Randwick Racecourse as a key feature of Royal Sovereign Stakes Day.

More Strawberries was scratched from the 2011 Light Fingers Stakes late yesterday afternoon after Racing NSW stewards received a veterinary certificate stating that Gai Waterhouse’s filly was unfit to race due to nasal discharge.

“More Strawberries was scratched this afternoon, the issue was minor but I was just not 100 per cent satisfied with this multiple Group-winning filly,” Ms Waterhouse said on her website yesterday.

“I expect her to start Saturday week, she will have missed no work and she will have the same program.”

This comes just hours after Group 1 winning filly Sercet Admirer was also scratched from the 2011 Light Fingers Stakes.

Secret Admirer’s trainer Grahame Begg felt that his filly was not quite ready for a first up start today.

“We weren’t 100 per cent happy with her soundness this morning so we decided it was prudent not to run her,” Begg said.

“You can’t take a risk with any horse, but more so with a horse of her calibre, so we thought it was a better option not to run tomorrow and wait for another day.”

Secret Admirer will now be aimed at a first up start in the Group 2 Surround Stakes (1,400m) on March 5, 2011.

Current favourite is now Chris Waller’s #6 Red Tracer, who has drawn barrier three for the 2011 Light Fingers Stakes and is currently paying $3.30 a win at Luxbet.

Second favourite is Peter Snowden’s #3 Parables who has been unlucky in drawing the widest barrier (now 9) in the race, but is still well supported, paying $5 a win at Luxbet.

Currently the only other horse that is fetching much support is Peter Snowden’s other representative #4 Obsequious who has drawn the inside barrier for the 2011 Light Fingers Stakes.
