Dusty Star is one of the more constant horses you will find in today’s D’Urban Stakes field at Caulfield. The three-year-old gelding has never finished back further then fourth from his 12 career starts.
In fact while his win rate sits at 25 percent, he has placed in an incredible 83 percent of races. Before you write him off as only good for your trifectas though, it’s worth considering many of those races were run as a colt and his temperament has improved drastically since being gelded.
“He has improved a hell of a lot since I had him gelded,” trainer Peter Morgan said.
The record of Dusty Star post gelding reads six starts for three wins and two second placed finishes.
Currently at online bookmaker Luxbet, Dusty Star is offering great value at more than $10 on the TOTE, but this is likely to shorten closer to the race.
He is another horse with Australian Guineas ambitions using this race as a real gauge of how preparations are going.
He will need to be in top shape though with plenty of competition in today’s Durban Stakes, most notably from $2.20 favourite Under The Eifflel which has just the one second place finish blemishing his record.
The other hotly backed contender is $5 chance Eclair Mystic which boasts a similarly consistent record as Dusty Star.
There has also been support for Roadtrain and Servant but current Luxbet markets have this one as predominantly a race in three.
If the form is anything to go by this will be a cracker of a race. Dusty Star is certainly in with a chance and worthy of an each way bet. The trifecta is also definitely in play with this one so sign up with Luxbet now and it could be a very valuable 2011 Durban Stakes for you!
