Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn is looking...
Despite not having a lead up race before today’s Group 3 Rubiton Stakes, jockey Michael Rodd is confident the five-year-old gelding Catapulted can repay the faith showed in him by punters on CF Orr Stakes Day at Caulfield.
Catapulted was spelled after Derby Day last year when he trailed off to a disappointing ninth place finish behind Whitefirars.
The break shouldn’t be too much of a concern though, in fact it could be quite the opposite with an impressive three wins and two seconds coming from his five returns to racing.
Catapulted is currently holding on to favouritism at Luxbet at a fixed price of $4, but there are plenty of other horses sitting just above that mark.
He will be the top weight today but drew well in barrier four which has given Rodd plenty of confidence.
“He’s flying. He’s had a couple of really nice jump-outs at Flemington and he always does his best,” Rodd said.
“When he’s out there he’s always doing 110 per cent and he’s got form around Hay List which is not bad form.
“There are a few races in mind for him this preparation but he’s definitely going to perform well first-up.”
Catapulted has amassed nine wins from his 18 starts and has ample Group experience.
There are plenty of contenders in the 2011 Rubiton Stakes field with the major competition likely coming from Reward For Effort ($6 fixed), Avenue ($5.50 fixed) and Solar Charged ($5 fixed).
