Doubtful Jack shapes as an interesting prospect before the CF Orr Stakes at Caulfield today. While most of the money has been thrown behind hot favourite Typhoon Tracy, Doubtful Jack has retained plenty of support and is currently second in betting on Luxbet.

With eight wins from 16 starts he’s certainly done plenty to earn the support and is coming off a strong first up win in Launceston. He jumped at $1.40 favourite and never looked in doubt as he steam rolled the Group 4 field.

It is the step up in class which is the test though and Doubtful Jack has disappointed punters after running in Group 1 events.

In his final run last year Doubtful Jack was backed into a similar price at Randwick only to falter down the straight and finish well out of the placings six lengths behind Captain Sonador. It was a similar story in the previous Group 1 race , also his last start at Caulfield, where he jumped as a $3.30 favourite only to finish sixth behind winner Response.
However after a solid spell and good first up win, trainer Peter Moody is confident Doubtful Jack can put pressure on stable mate Typhoon Tracy.

“They’ve come through their first-up runs well so the weather probably dictates their chances… if we do get more rain Doubtful Jack certainly comes strongly into calculations,” Moody said.

The current fixed price for Doubtful Jack on Luxbet is $7.00.
