Shellscrape Scratched from 2011 Southern Cross Stakes Field

The Chris Waller-trained Shellscrape is an early scratching from the 2011 Southern Cross Stakes field, the Group race feature one of the main attractions at tomorrow’s Light Fingers Stakes Day programme at the Royal Randwick.

Dane Shadow four-year-old Shellscrape was the early favourite to win the $125,000 Group 3 Southern Cross Stakes (1200m) tomorrow but connections chose to withdraw him from the race.

Shellscrape is suffering from a sore foot that has needed minor treatment.

Waller has named the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Caulfield on February 26, Blue Diamond Stakes Day, as the new first-up assignment for Shellscrape.

Pinwheel, Peter Snowden’s classy Lonhro five-year-old, is now the $3.50 favourite in the Southern Cross Stakes odds through Luxbet.

Waller is still hoping for a Group race win at Randwick tomorrow with his three-year-old filly Red Tracer the narrow $3.00 favourite to win the day’s marquee race, the $200,000 Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m).

The Southern Cross Stakes will jump at 2:53pm (AEDST) as Randwick Race 4 tomorrow while the Light Fingers Stakes is scheduled as Race 6 at 4:10pm (AEDST).
