2011 Carlyon Cup Tips – Caulfield Race 2

With the 2011 Carlyon Cup due to take place this Saturday February 12, 2011, we have put together the latest betting tips for the race.

The 2011 Carlyon Cup will feature as Race 2 at Caulfield Racecourse on Saturday and is due to jump at 1.25pm (AEDST).

The Group 3 Carlyon Cup is worth over $125,000 and will be run over 1,600 metres.

You can’t go past the eight-year-old veteran Scenic Shot to win the 2011 Carlyon Cup.

Scenic Shot is trained by Daniel Morton and has won 15 of his 59 career starts.

The multiple Group 1 winning horse has an experience advantage over most of the field and despite carrying the top weight should perform well in the 2011 Carlyon Cup.

Scenic Shot will jump from barrier 11 and will be ridden by regular jockey Shane Scriven.

Scenic Shot is also nominated for the 2011 Australian Cup at Flemington on March 12, 2011, so why not have a go at this popular betting double at Luxbet.

The Races.com.au team also believes #12 Voile Rouge is one to watch after the four-year-old gelding won at Flemington last start on January 22, 2011.

Voile Rouge is trained by David Hayes and has a win percentage of 36%, accruing a total of $117,000 in prize money over his career.

Voile Rouge will be jumping from barrier 3 and will be ridden by Steven Arnold.

#13 Lord Pyrus is also a stand out amongst the already classy 2011 Carlyon Cup field.

Lord Pyrus has won four of his fifteen starts and finished second to #12 Voile Rouge at Flemington last month.

The five-year-old gelding, trained by Judy Mawer, was purchased in 2006 for a tiny $6,000, and has since claimed almost $100,000 in prize money.

Lord Pyrus will be looking to improve on his last two finishes of second this preparation.

The gelding will carry 55.5 kilograms and will be ridden by Craig Williams from barrier 15.

Not to be forgotten is Robbie Griffith’s seven-year-old gelding #10 Its Prince.

Its Prince has had six wins in his career and two of them have been on this track at this distance.

Its Prince has had all but one of his wins on a Good track, and with Caulfield racecourse currently listed as a Dead 4, Robbie Griffith will be hoping the track is upgraded to suit his horse ahead of Saturday’s 2011 Carlyon Cup.
