2011 Breeders Classic Tips & Betting – Randwick Race 5

The exciting 2011 Breeders Classic will be run at Randwick Racecourse this Saturday February 12, 2011, and the Races.com.au team have come up with the hottest tips to help our punters out.

We cannot go past obvious favourite #1 More Joyous to win the 2011 Breeders Classic.

More Joyous will be looking to snare a first up win after a 12 week spell that has seen her out of action since October 2010.

The mare has won 10 of her total 14 starts and her Trainer Gai Waterhouse has publicly declared that she believes her champion mare will go unbeaten this prep.

More Joyous has had two of her wins over the 1,200 metre distance required in the 2011 Breeders Classic and has been blessed with barrier one in the race.

With so many things going for More Joyous, it is hard to consider she could be beaten in the 2011 Breeders Classic.

However, the field is full of classy mares, included our pick for runner-up #6 Graceful Anna.

Graceful Anna has had an unlucky run since winning the Listed Attwood Marshall Silk Stocking  in May, 2010.

You cannot criticise her win percentage of 50%, however, and considering she has drawn barrier 2 for the 2011 Breeders Classic and is carrying a light 55.5 kilograms, you have to say she is in with a solid chance.

Betting for the 2011 Breeders Classic will open shortly at Luxbet.

2011 Breeders Classic – Randwick Race 5

  • Races.com.au Favourite: #1 More Joyous
  • Best Place Picks: #6 Graceful Anna, #7 Marquardt and #9 Jersey Lily

Another mare who has drawn a good barrier is John Thompson’s  #7 Marquardt, who will jump from barrier 3 in Saturday’s Breeders Classic.

Marquardt is moving back to the 1,100 metre distance after placing seventh in a nine horse field at Flemington last October in the 1600 metre Myer Classic.

Having already won over 1,100 metres, we feel the four-year-old mare will be much more comfortable at this distance and could certainly be up there with the best of them at the winning post.

Finally, we are tipping Les Bridges#9 Jersey Lily to run a nice race.

This will be Jersey Lily’s first race this preparation after winning the Listed Herald Sun Stakes last prep.

Jersey Lily has not previously won a race over 1,100 metres, but having only been allotted 55 kilograms for the 2011 Breeders Classic and with jockey Tim Clark on board, we think this mare may just surprise everyone by being in the finish.
