Final Field & Barrier Draw – 2011 Hobart Cup

Hobart is looking forward to an exciting day this Sunday February 13, 2011, with the running of the 2011 Hobart Cup.

The Group 3 Hobart Cup’s final field was announced today, with a full 16 horse field plus two emergencies listed.

The 2011 Hobart Cup  is a weight-for-age race run over a distance of 2,200 metres and is worth an impressive $300,000 in prize money.

Betting for the 2011 Hobart Cup will open at Luxbet later in the week.

Troy Blacker’s Dream Pedlar has accepted for the 2011 Hobart Cup and will be ridden by Victorian jockey Craig Williams who will be out to win his third Hobart Cup in four years.

Despite being allocated the heaviest weight of 59 kilograms, Dream Pedlar’s trainer feels that their barrier draw of seven is the perfect starting position for the six-year-old gelding.

“That’s a nice barrier and it gives us a few options,” Blacker said.

“We can either go forward or take a sit.”

Dream Pedlar may be the best chance to be the first Tasmanian horse to win the Hobart Cup in six years.

“I’m happy with his recovery and he’s feeling well,” Blacker said of his horse.

Chris Hyland’s seven-year-old gelding Crabs will be aiming to win his first start this preparation, with the horse failing to finish better than fifth in his last four races.

Crabs has drawn the second widest barrier 17 in the 2011 Hobart Cup and will be ridden by apprentice Jack Hill.

Micheal Kent’s Red Buttons will be attempting to win two in a row after winning at Sandown’s Hillside track on January 29.

Red Buttons has a win percentage of 23% and has drawn barrier one in the 2011 Hobart Cup.

Other horses listed in the final field include Jason Clifford’s Forbidden Quest, Russell Cameron’s Fast Future and Ray Worbey’s Organised.

Currently Robert Smerdon’s Shewan and Charlie Goggin’s Family Trust are the emergencies for the 2011 Hobart Cup.
