Hobart Betting Tips – 2011 Tasmanian Derby

Racing in Hobart this Saturday February 5, 2011 will be headlined by the 2011 Tasmanian Derby (2200m).

Running as Race 6, the Group 3 Tasmanian Derby  is worth $150,000 and will run at 3.28pm (EST) at Tattersall’s Park.

Current favourite to win the 2011 Tasmanian Derby is the Peter Gelagotis trained gelding Mourinho, who has won two of his previous five starts.

Mourinho has drawn barrier four in the race and will carry a weight of 57 kilograms.

The three-year-old gelding has never won at this distance, but has a career win percentage of 40%.

Mourinho travelled to Flemington for his last start where he finished last in an 11 horse field in the Australia Remembers Handicap (1800m).

The Races.com.au team fancies the Darley horse Ludka to win the 2011 Tasmanian Derby.

Trained by Lee Freedman and owned by Sheikh Mohammed, Ludka is fresh off a win in the Hobart Guineas on January 26, 2011.

While Ludka has yet to be tested over the 2,200 metre distance, he has claimed victory over 2,100 metres and we believe he will have no problem going the extra 100 metres.

Sharing the lowest weight in the field and running from barrier one, we believe Ludka is the best chance to win the 2011 Tasmanian Derby.

Ludka, along with fellow stablemate Chinchilla, are the first two Darley-owned horses to race in Tasmania.

Hobart Race 6 Tips – 2011 Tasmanian Derby

  • Races.com.au Favourite: #8 Ludka
  • Best Place Bets: #2 Tiger Won’t Tell, #3 Heez Born Lucky and #1 Mourinho

Using our Tasmanian Derby picks, you can choose to secure best odds and back Ludka for the win, or even try for the first four, using our win and place picks at Luxbet.

To finish second behind Ludka we have chosen Tiger Won’t Tell.

The filly had an unlucky run when she finish second behind Ludka in the 2011 Hobart Guineas.

Held up at the 200 metres, Tiger Won’t Tell burst through the pack to finish second by a short-head.

This makes the team at Races.com.au think that she could be the biggest danger to Ludka in the race and is definitely worth putting some money on with quality bookmakers Luxbet.

Also worth a look in is Heez Born Lucky who is looking to make it three in a row with a win at the 2011 Tasmanian Derby.

Fresh off two wins at Bairnsdale and Cranbourne, Heez Born Lucky has proven his versatility by winning over both 1,600 metre and 2,080 metre distances in his last two races.

With the same winning jockey, Rhys Mcleod, on board as when he won his previous two races, you have to expect Heez Born Lucky to be a big threat to the rest of the field.

Why not have a go at a boxed trifecta with #8 Ludka, #2 Tiger Won’t Tell and #3 Heez Born Lucky at Luxbet in order to have a chance at really cleaning up in the betting.
