Can Love Conquers All Beat Hot Danish in 2011 Expressway Stakes?

Hot Danish

Can favourite Hot Danish win the 2011 Expressway Stakes

Money has continued to pour in for Love Conquers All to win the 2011 Expressway Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday, the four-year-old the biggest market mover, but can they rise and cause an upset over the favourite Hot Danish?

Group 1 winning mare Hot Danish resumes for the season in the $200,000 Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200m) this Saturday February 5, the star seven-year-old opening as the $2.10 favourite of the field at Luxbet.

Hot Danish has a near impeccable first-up record over her career having won seven of her eight first-up runs, many at Group level.

She won the Group 2 Breeders Classic (1200m) and Group 2 Research Stakes (1200m) first-up in 2009, and then the Group 2 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) and Group 2 Premiere Stakes (1200m) when resuming for her autumn and spring campaigns last year.

This combined with her ideal barrier one draw in the Expressway, her 2kg weight advantage over the rest of the field and her sheer class make Hot Danish the one to beat.

However, the punters are starting to jump on the Love Conquers All bandwagon.

Odds on the Michael, Wayne and John Hawkes-trained galloper have firmed in from $3.60 to the $3.30 Expressway Stakes second favourite throughout the day at Luxbet.

Love Conquers All, a winner of six of their 11 career starts to date, is also first-up for the season having shown promise for the autumn winning their 800m trial at Warwick Farm on January 4.

For Saturday’s Expressway Stakes showdown, Love Conquers All is considered the main danger to Hot Danish.

Jumping from barrier six with in-form hoop Jim Cassidy in the mount, Cassidy having claimed victory in the Group 2 Australia Stakes aboard Whitefriars last Friday night, Love Conquers All also has a very favourable first-up record.

Last year they claimed their maiden Group race victory first-up after a two month spell, beating the likes of fellow Expressway Stakes rival Danleigh and Sniper’s Bullet in the Group 3 Missile Stakes (1200m) at Randwick.

At their most recent start Love Conquers All ran a credible fourth behind Hay List in the Group 1 Manikato Stakes (1200m), which was their first run at the notoriously tricky Moonee Valley track.

However, the depth of Love Conquers All talent had already been discovered in the winter when they previously defeated Hay List by nearly a length in the Listed June Stakes (1100m) at Randwick.

In the Manikato, Love Conquers All carried a hefty 58.5kg proving they can handle the weight they are allocated for the Expressway on Saturday.

Connections are looking at the $1 million Newmarket Handicap (1200m) at Flemington on March 12 for Love Conquers All.

Luxbet currently have Love Conquers All as a $17 chance in their 2011 Newmarket Handicap markets, Black Caviar the clear favourite at $2.35.
