The 2011 Tasmanian Derby final field and barrier draw has been announced for the feature Hobart showdown, scheduled to kick-start the Group racing action of the Tasmanian Summer Racing Carnival this Saturday, February 5.
The $150,000 Group 3 Tasmanian Derby (2200m) has attracted a nine-horse final field of three-year-olds lead up the Lee Freedman-trained Ludka.
Sure to start the favourite at Luxbet in the Tasmanian Derby odds, smart young Singspiel filly Ludka has come up trumps with barrier one for Saturday as she seeks her fourth win on the trot.
At her last start Melbourne galloper Ludka claimed a gritty win in the Listed Hobart Guineas (2100m) at her Tasmanian debut ahead of Tiger Won’t Tell.
With her impressive form, ideal draw and good weight Ludka looks hard to beat in the Tasmanian Guineas.
Tiger Won’t Tell, who came within a short-head of Ludka on the line in the Hobart Guineas on January 23, has drawn wider with gate seven for the rematch on Saturday.
Other highly rated Tasmanian Guineas acceptors that have claims to cause an upset include Peter Gelagotis’ improving Oratorio gelding Mourinho, Leigh Child’s consistent galloper Heez Born Lucky seeking their third consecutive win and talented Stratum filly Rose Of Scotland coming off a gallant fourth in the Hobart Guineas.
Tasmanian Guineas Day will provide plenty of great racing and betting action this weekend.
Another highlight on the programme is the $90,000 Listed Wrest Point Strutt Stakes (2100m) for three-year-old fillies featuring Lee Freedman’s Exchanges and the Darren Weir-trained Le Bel Away.
The other stakes race at Hobart on Saturday is the $150,000 Listed Tasbreeders Bow Mistress Trophy (1200m), the field of fillies and mares headlined by Group 3 Tesio Stakes winner Lady Lynette.
