Les Bridge’s star mare Hot Danish has been forced to miss a barrier trial at Rosehill Racecourse today due to a summer heatwave in Sydney, but is still on track to resume in the $200,000 Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200m) this Saturday, February 5.
One of 13 gallopers nominated for the 2011 Expressway Stakes, Expressway Stakes Day kick starting the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival, Hot Danish is likely to open as the favourite at Luxbet with Hay List an unlikely starter.
Seven-year-old Nothin’ Leica Dane mare Hot Danish will launch her season campaign in the Expressway Stakes on Saturday after a successful spring.
She last raced on Victoria Derby Day at Flemington finishing third behind Sacred Choice in the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m).
Hot Danish proved she was still in-form with a winning 800m hit-out at Warwick Farm on January 24 and was scheduled to have another barrier trial today at Rosehill leading up to Saturday’s showdown.
However Bridge withdrew Hot Danish from the Rosehill trials this morning, opting instead to gallop her on the local Kensington track to save travelling with her in the harsh heat.
A number of other talented runners are still set to trial at the Gardens today including Chris Waller’s Pressday heading towards the Group 1 Australian Guineas on March 5, stablemate Shellscrape aimed at the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap and fellow Newmarket hopeful Melito.
Meanwhile, the 2011 Expressway Stakes Final Field is due to be released tomorrow with the likes of Group 1 winner Danleigh prepared by leading Sydney trainer Chris Waller, consistent Mossman four-year-old Love Conquers All, David Payne’s local gelding Centennial Park and quality mare Graceful Anna all heading towards the weight-for-age feature.
