Black Caviar Leads 2011 Newmarket Handicap Betting Odds

Peter Moody’s star mare Black Caviar has opened as the red hot favourite in the early 2011 Newmarket Handicap odds, tipped to maintain her unbeaten record in the feature race of this year’s Super Saturday of Racing at Flemington on March 12.

Bel Esprit four-year-old Black Caviar is Australian racing’s top-rated sprinter having won all eight of her career starts including an emphatic four length victory in the Group 1 Patinack Farm Classic (1200m) at Flemington last start.

Her imposing record has seen premier online bookmaker Luxbet install Black Caviar as the short-priced $2.30 favourite to win the $1 million Newmarket Handicap (1200m) ahead of the talented Hay List.

The John McNair-trained Hay List, a winner of 12 of his 15 career starts including the Group 1 Manikato Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley during the spring, is the $8 second elect in the Newmarket Handicap futures markets.

Hay List met Black Caviar in the Patinack last start but after the five-year-old Statue Of Liberty gelding injured his leg in the lead-up to the highly anticipated showdown, he could only manage a distant sixth behind the mare.

The other top fancy to win this season’s Newmarket is Star Witness, the Danny O’Brien-trained colt paying $9 through Luxbet.

Three-year-old Star Witness won the Blue Diamond Stakes as a two-year-old and then became a dual Group 1 winner during the spring with an easy two length victory in the Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington.

Of the other Newmarket Handicap nominees, Luxbet have last year’s Golden Slipper winner Crystal Lily ($17) and Tony Noonan’s smart Testa Rossa mare Ortensia ($17) back from a stint in Hong Kong as the next shortest-priced entries.

Futures betting allows punters to lock in some unbelievable odds on their favourites before the 2011 Newmarket Handicap final field is released on March 9.

Looking down the list of entries and their odds, the Races.com.au crew think previous Blue Diamond Stakes winning Exceed And Excel four-year-old Reward For Effort ($21) also prepared by Peter Moody as well as stable mate and reigning Horse of the Year Typhoon Tracy ($21), and Golden Slipper runner-up Decision Time ($31) are the best value runners to cause an upset Newmarket Handicap result.

Setting them apart from the other online bookmakers that also have early Newmarket Handicap odds available, Luxbet also have Fixed Place prices on all the entries.

So visit Luxbet today and open an account with them using the exclusive promotional code BONUSBET and receive a free bet matching your first deposit up to $400!
