This Sunday, January 23, the first feature race day of the 2011 Tasmanian Summer Racing Carnival will take place at Hobart Racecourse featuring two stakes races including the $90,000 Listed Elwick Stakes (1100m).
The 2011 Elwick Stakes is a sprint feature for two-year-olds run under set weight conditions and has attracted nine nominations.
Included in the Elwick Stakes entries this season are the Lee Freedman-trained Chincilla, Stratum filly Heaven’s Choice who won on debut at Launceston in an 1100m handicap on January 6, consistent More Than Ready gelding More Awesome and improving black filly Oxy Angel.
Promising Exceed And Excel filly Chincilla is likely to start at the top of the Elwick Stakes odds when they open at leading online bookie Luxbet after claiming her maiden win in Victoria on January 6 carrying a hefty 57kg.
The Dean Wells-trained More Awesome, resuming racing after a two month break, is our other early pick in the Elwick Stakes following their back-to-back wins in Tasmania in November.
The highlight race on the card for Sunday’s meet will be the $90,000 Listed Hobart Guineas (2100m) which has attracted 18 nominations vying for a spot in the 15-horse final field.
