Gai’s Choice Wins 2011 Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Handicap – Gold Coast Race 2 Results

In a win for Races.com.au punters, the David Pfieffer-trained Gai’s Choice has won the second race at the 2011 Gold Coast Magic Millions Race Day today, beating home a classy field in the $164,000 Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Handicap (1300m).

In-form General Nediym filly Gai’s Choice was the Races.com.au tip in the Magic Millions Race 2 and at good $5.50 odds through Luxbet she proved a great value bet.

Gai’s Choice hit the line first holding off Posh Chic ($5) with Rare Diamond ($13) adding to the winning Trifecta payout in third.

After a good start one of the favourites Beethog came in for fourth place.

Ridden by Corey Brown, favourite for the jockey challenge, three-year-old Gai’s Choice settled just off the speed letting the others do the early work.

At the 900m mark the Kevin Moses-trained Posh Chic took the lead followed by Casholet, Gai’s Choice sitting comfortably in fourth.

Despite word that the inside of the track was not the place to be today, Brown took the shortcut and moved Gai’s Choice up to the fence where she was able to take the lead, open it up and come out the winner.

Gai’s Choice has now won four of her eight career starts, an impressive record for the Sydney filly, the winnings from today’s victory boosting her total prize money earned over $200,000.

The Gold Coast track was upgraded to a Heavy 8 just before Race 2 with conditions continuing to improve at the course, positive news for most punters.

Race 3 on the Magic Millions Day programme is set to jump at 2:00pm (AEDST) when the next group of gallopers face off in the $170,000 Magic Millions Stayers Cup (1800m).
