With the 2011 Gold Coast Magic Millions Race Day scheduled to go ahead on Saturday January 15 despite earlier concerns over the wet track, the final fields and barriers for the races have been released including those for the $1 million Gold Coast Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m).
Alongside the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic, the 3YO Guineas is the feature event at the Gold Coast track on Saturday and has drawn a capacity field of 16 runners plus five emergencies.
The 2011 Magic Millions 3YO Guineas betting odds are out now at Luxbet with Sydney raider Top Drop the current $4.40 favourite.
Top Drop has drawn barrier 13 for Saturday, their widest draw from 11 career starts, the Gerald Ryan-trained Snitzel colt coming off a win at Randwick.
Five other Magic Millions 3YO Guineas acceptors are currently at single figure odds to win including second emergency Intencion, currently the $5.50 second favourite at Luxbet.
Tony Vasil’s consistent Commands colt, Intencion is not yet guaranteed a start on Saturday but the punters are still getting behind them with the uncertain track conditions facing the Magic Millions’ runners this year meaning scratchings are almost a certainty.
The other shortest-priced contenders heading into Saturday’s showdown are Torio’s Quest and Celtic Dancer both paying $7.50 at Luxbet.
Drawn at opposite ends of the field, Torio’s Quest has a wide barrier 21 draw and took out the Wyong Magic Millions 3YO Stakes on December 5 ahead of Top Drop, while local Choisir gelding Celtic Dancer will jump from the inside barrier one and is coming off a win at the Gold Coast track on New Year’s Day.
Torio’s Quest is, however, one of the many interstate horses in doubt of arriving at the Gold Coast on time to run in the Magic Millions features due to road closures and flooding.
Another notable horse in the 2011 M.M. 3YO Classic field at generous odds to win is the Gai Waterhouse-trained Brightexpectations, the top weight with 57kg paying $15 through Luxbet and a strong chance that can handle the wet track.
Set to run as Race 6 at the Gold Coast on Saturday, the 2011 Gold Coast Magic Millions 3YO Guineas will jump at 4:00pm (AEDST).
