2011 BMW Magic Millions 2YO Classic Final Field & Barrier Draw

The final field and barrier draw for the highly anticipated 2011 BMW Magic Millions 2YO Classic has been released in anticipation of the feature showdown to take place at the Gold Coast Racecourse this Saturday, January 15.

The $2 million BMW Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m), the headline event of the 2011 Gold Coast Magic Millions Carnival, has drawn an outstanding final field of 16 starters plus five emergencies with Karuta Queen the red hot favourite to win.

Dominating the Magic Millions betting markets at a current quote of $3.20 through Luxbet, the Neville Layt-trained Karuta Queen has drawn well in barrier 10 for Saturday’s showdown when connections chose the gate for their emerging star.

The unbeaten Not A Single Doubt filly enjoyed her latest win in the Wyong Magic Millions 2YO Classic back on December 5 and will make history if she backs up with victory at the Gold Coast as no other M.M. Classic winner has come off such a long break.

If emergencies don’t gain a start Karuta Queen will move into gate seven, which was the gate 2010 Magic Millions Classic winner Military Rose jumped from.

Other early favourites in the Magic Millions Classic odds include $5.50 second elect Pepper Jet, Schiffer at $6.50 and Wonderful You paying $8.50.

Liam Birchley’s Jet Spur colt Pepper Jet is set to start from barrier four with Damian Browne in the mount, the unbeaten runner most recently having taken out a 900m Handicap at the Gold Coast on New Year’s Day, but with the rain-affected Gold Coast track their inside draw may not be ideal.

Schiffer has drawn gate 13 and will be ridden by Hugh Bowman, the Gerald Ryan-trained Snitzel filly a strong interstate contender coming off a Boxing Day win in a 2YO Handicap at Randwick.

Runners at double figure odds that could cause an upset 2011 Magic Millions 2YO Classic result on the weekend include the Gillian Heinrich-trained Military Grace paying $10 after a wide barrier 18 draw, stablemate Internal Revenue at $21 through Luxbet and $15 chance Combat Kitty also out wide with barrier 19.

Gold Coast trainer Heinrich took out last year’s M.M. 2YO Classic with glamour mare Military Rose and her top chance this year is consistent fully Military Grace, great value in the odds considering her back-to-back Listed wins in the Calaway Gal Stakes (1000m) and the B.J. Mclachlan Stakes (1200m) in Brisbane in December.

The Magic Millions 2YO Classic field is likely to undergo a number of changes prior to race time on Saturday as some of the contenders are facing issues getting to the Gold Coast due to flooded roads including the Sydney-stranded Fast And Sexy, Snippets Glory and Combat Kitty unable to get through cuts on the Pacific and New England highways.

The 2011 BMW Magic Millions 2YO Classic is set to run as Race 7 at the Gold Coast on Saturday, jump time scheduled as 4:40pm (AEDST).

On Saturday the Gold Coast Turf Club will host eight other top class Magic Millions races including the $1 million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m) where Top Drop is the favourite and the $328,000 Magic Millions Cup (1400m).
